Tree Inventories - Why They Matter

Last month Middleburg Life published a beautiful article written by Heidi Baumstark highlighting Donegan’s Tree Service and we couldn’t be more proud! You can check it out on page 38!

Jim has been in the tree business for more than four decades and his passion for trees has never dulled. Recently, he started to utilize a mapping system for trees that has helped many residential and commercial properties in the area. This mapping system creates a Tree Inventory, which allows him to mark all the locations for the trees on a property using GIS and create a timeline of work that every unique tree requires.

While he truly loves all of the trees Donegan’s works on, he does have a special place in his heart for the historical trees in the area — including this incredible Laceleaf Japanese Maple tree that is 150 years old on the Oatlands property. The tree is so unique in the way that the trunk twists and the branches drape over the ground. It’s really cool!

*Please note, do not invade a tree’s area like Jim is in this photo. He’s an expert and is also this tree’s caretaker so he can be up-close to it. It’s important to give historic trees their space.
